5 Rock One-Hit Wonders With Catchy Choruses You’ll Never Forget

Part of what made some one-hit wonders such massive hits is their catchy, addicting, and straight-up fun choruses. These five rock songs are the best examples of that, and we think they’re worth revisiting!

1. “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus

“’Cause I’m just a teenage dirtbag, baby.”

This huge rock hit from 2000 has come back into fashion a few times over the years, namely through apps like TikTok. “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus is an anthem for anyone who has ever been a weird and awkward teenager. Surprisingly, this song was Wheatus’ only high-charting hit.

2. “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” by Deep Blue Something

“And I said, what about Breakfast at Tiffany’s? / She said, I think I remember that film and / As I recall, I think we both kinda liked it / And I said, well, that’s the one thing we’ve got.”

Released in 1995, “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” by Deep Blue Something is one of the most worthy entries on our hit of one-hit wonders with killer choruses. The power is in the melody for this one, and that excellent melody has made this song age pretty well through the years.

3. “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba

“I get knocked down, but I get up again / You’re never gonna keep me down!”

This one’s a shoo-in. “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba was an enormous hit back in 1997, and it has since evolved into a go-to bar or pub song for the ages. While Chumbawamba did well in the UK for a couple of years, they never really hit the US charts as hard as they did with “Tubthumping”.

4. “Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)” by Nine Days

“This is the story of a girl / Who cried a river and drowned the whole world / And while she looks so sad in photographs / I absolutely love her when she smiles.”

If you’re a 90s kid, you definitely know the chorus to this pop-rock song by heart. However, you probably couldn’t recall the name of the band if you heard “Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)” on the radio. That’s because Nine Days didn’t really find much success outside of this single again.

5. “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains Of Wayne

“Stacy’s mom has got it going on / She’s all I want and I’ve waited for so long.”

A standout entry on our list of one-hit wonders with excellent choruses, Fountains Of Wayne managed to write one of the most brain-infecting songs ever with “Stacy’s Mom” back in 2003. This power pop hit hasn’t aged the best with its juvenile lyrics, but one can’t deny that it’s still a very fun song.
