Roger Waters Releasing Deluxe Box Set of His 2023 Version of Pink Floyd’s Classic Album ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’

In October 2023, Roger Waters released a rerecorded version of his former band Pink Floyd’s classic 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon, titled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux. The updated version of the album was recorded with members of Roger’s current touring group.

Now, Waters has announced plans to release a Super Deluxe box set edition of The Dark Side of the Moon Redux on March 14.

The expanded collection will include the original Redux album and a live album featuring songs from The Dark Side of the Moon performed by Waters and his solo band at sold-out concerts held at The London Palladium on October 8 and 9, 2023.

The box set will feature the Redux studio album and the live record in multiple formats, including on gold vinyl LPs, CDs, and a Blu-ray boasting Dolby Atmos and 96/24 Audio mixes.

The Blu-ray also will feature video interview with Roger in which he discusses each track.

In addition, the box set will include four 10-inch vinyl discs cut at 45 rpm and featuring the Redux versions of “Money,” “Time,” “Speak to Me/Breathe,” and “Us and Them.” Each disc also will feature artwork etched on its B-side.

Rounding out the collection will be a 40-page book of photos taken during the making of the Redux album, at rehearsals, and at Waters’ concert at The London Palladium.

The first 700 orders from Waters’ official store also will come packaged with a print signed by Roger.

More About The Dark Side of the Moon Redux

The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, which was released on October 6, 2023, commemorated the original album’s 50th anniversary. Redux peaked at No. 4 on the British albums chart, but only reached No. 142 on the Billboard 200.

Redux features stripped-down version of The Dark Side of the Moon’s songs, without guitar solos. Some tracks feature spoken-word interludes by Waters.

Roger contributed lead vocals, bass, and synthesizer to the album. The record also featured Gus Seyffert on multiple instruments, including bass, guitar, and keyboards; Joey Waronker on drums and percussion; Jonathan Wilson on guitar and keyboards; Johnny Shepherd on organ and piano; Via Mardot on theremin; Azniv Korkejian on vocals; Gabe Noel on string arrangements and strings; and Jon Carin on keyboards and lap steel. In addition, Robert Walter played piano on “The Great Gig in the Sky.”

The same musicians also played with Waters at the London Palladium shows.

About The Dark Side of the Moon

Pink Floyd released The Dark Side of the Moon in March 1973. The album was recorded by the band’s classic lineup of Waters, singer/guitarist David Gilmour, keyboardist/singer Richard Wright, and drummer Nick Mason.

The Dark Side of the Moon peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in April 1973, becoming Pink Floyd’s first chart-topping album in the U.S.

The album also featured Pink Floyd’s first hit single in the U.S., “Money,” which peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other classic songs on the record include “Time,” “Us and Them,” “Brain Damage,” and “Eclipse.”

The Dark Side of the Moon has been certified 15-times platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than 15 million copies in the U.S.

The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. It also was selected for preservation by the U.S. National Recording Registry in 2012.
