Miranda Lambert Discusses Her New Single and Video

Miranda Lambert wrote “Run” alone and sat on it for quite some time. Ahead of the album’s release, she spoke to Today’s Country Radio host Kelleigh Bannen about the song. “I wasn’t ever ready to perform it until now,” Lambert said. “That’s what songs are for, and you may not be ready at that one time to sing about something really raw,” she added. “But then it can come back around.”

Lambert said that the vulnerable new single is “an admission of error too.” She added, “It’s an apology, but it’s also a resolve.”

To bring the video to life, Lambert and her team traveled to Don Donnelly’s D Spur Ranch & Riding Stables in Gold Canyon, Arizona, However, not all of the horses in the clip belong to Donnelly, though. Lambert’s horse, Cool, appears in the video as well.

“There is always a sense of freedom when you’re on the back of a horse with the wind in your hair, so it felt really significant to have Cool with me in this video,” Lambert said. “I love horses because they’re a way to run to something–or away if you need to. I started riding when I turned 30 and wanted to try more things that scared me,” she added.

Lambert added Cool to her stable last year when she took on her new hobby–mounted shooting. “Now horses are such a passion of mine and mounted shooting is a brand-new way to push myself and to chase the feeling of being bravely true to yourself, which is exactly what this song is about,” she said.
