In addition to being 75 years old and performing like he’s 25 years old, Billy Joel will accomplish another enormous feat on his 2025 tour. While he unfortunately had to postpone some of his tour dates due to a medical issue, Joel resume his tour on July 5 in Pittsburgh. After that, Joel will head to New York and make history by performing in all three of New York City’s major stadiums in July and August.

The stadiums in question are Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, Metlife Stadium (technically in New Jersey, but serves as the home of the New York Football Giants and New York Jets), and Citi Field in Queens. This might seem like a fairly reasonable touring schedule, given the proximity of the three stadiums. However, Billy Joel is the first artist to ever play all three stadiums in one summer. Joel will specifically visit and perform at all three of these venues within a little more than a month
Regarding his upcoming shows, Joel told Billboard: “I’m looking forward to playing these iconic stadiums this summer – each holds personal significance to me. There’s nothing like the energy of the crowds in New York, and sharing a stage with my friends, Rod Stewart, Sting, and Stevie Nicks, whose music always inspires me, is extremely rewarding.”
Billy Joel’s Decorated Live Music Run
Billy Joel’s 2025 tour comes nearly a year after he ended his 10-year residency at New York’s most prolific venue, Madison Square Garden. During those 10 years, Joel played at MSG every single month except in June of 2017 and in December of 2022. He also took a year-and-a-half break in 2020 due to the fact that the pandemic was at its peak.
Regardless of those missed dates, Billy Joel performed 104 shows, sold 1.9 million tickets, and grossed $266.7 million. The residency is one of the most iconic in music history and will likely remain that way as it will surely be hard to match.
Besides setting a new record, Joel’s tour will run for a number of months for the rescheduled tour dates that will now run through 2026. Even though Joel’s tour will transpire mostly in North America, he will perform in Europe as he has several shows planned in the U.K. One of those shows will be in Edinburg, Scotland, and the other will be in Liverpool, England.
