‘American Idol’ Awards Last Platinum Ticket

With the auditions coming to an end, it seemed that American Idol saved the best for last when they welcomed Canaan James Hill to the stage. At just 17 years old, the recent high-school graduate explained how he wanted to be a preacher. Stepping up to the spotlight, the singer offered a mesmerizing performance of “I Need Your Glory” by Earnest Pugh.

Leaving the judges completely stunned by his voice, Underwood offered her thoughts, insisting,  “The words velvet, butter, it was smooth but powerful. I was, ‘Where have you been the last 17 years?’ You have a gift. Thank you for bringing your gift to us. I am kind of speechless.”

Bryan added his voice to the conversation, stating, “I’ve never seen anything like it. When you sing in church, what do people do? Do they just run to the baptism pit and jump in it and get saved immediately? Carrie said buttery, velvety, all the favorite food groups, butter pecan ice cream, barbecue. It’s a yes!”

Even with Richie also praising Hill, the three judges decided to award the last platinum ticket of the season, allowing him to bypass the first round during Hollywood Week.

With the road to stardom officially underway, don’t miss American Idol, airing both Sunday and Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and available to stream the following day on Hulu.
