Last Thursday (April 3), Brooks & Dunn took their Neon Moon Tour to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. During the show’s encore, the duo performed their signature hit “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” However, Ronnie Dunn didn’t stick around for the entire performance. Midway through the song, he motioned to the duo’s bassist that he was done, showed his appreciation to the crowd, and left the stage, leaving fans everywhere with several questions. Now, we have an answer.

Yesterday (April 7), a representative for Brooks & Dunn spoke to USA Today about Dunn’s abrupt exit from the stage. “Ronnie wasn’t feeling well from being sick,” they revealed. “But Saturday night’s show went on as planned,” they added. So, it seems that Dunn was temporarily under the weather and is now back on his feet and ready to perform.
It Has Been a Rough Few Months for Brooks & Dunn
The last few months have been quite the ride for Brooks & Dunn. 2024 saw them making a major comeback, winning Vocal Duo of the Year at the CMA Awards, and releasing Reboot II. Additionally, they shared the stage with Jelly Roll at the awards show, bridging the gap between ’90s country and the modern iteration of the genre. However, not everything has gone the duo’s way.
In December, Ronnie Dunn found himself sidelined after suffering a leg injury. He took it in stride, though, calling the healing process an “eight-week vacation.” That two-month break left him rested and refreshed when the Neon Moon Tour kicked off last month.
Then came last Friday’s show in Indianapolis. Multiple videos from the concert showed that Dunn was pushing himself to get through the duo’s set. One clip saw him sitting on the stage risers while playing guitar during “Rock My World (Little Country Girl)” before returning to the mic to sing his part of the chorus. Then, he left the stage before they could finish the encore. However, the fact that he was on the stage until they played the encore speaks to how hard he fought to finish the show.
Brooks & Dunn will be onstage again later this month when the Neon Moon Tour picks up again in Des Moines, Iowa, at the Wells Fargo Arens.
