“I Feel Super Connected to Love”: Katy Perry to Write New Song About Blue Origin Space Flight

Yesterday (April 14), Katy Perry made pop music history when she became the first pop artist to go to space. She, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sanchez stepped aboard a Blue Origin rocket and flew to the edge of space. During the short trip, Perry sang Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.” Now, she plans to write a song about her journey.

Katy Perry Was Deeply Touched by Her Journey to Space

After returning to Earth, Katy Perry revealed the Blue Origin flight sparked some heavy emotions in her and inspired her to write a new song. “I feel super connected to love. So connected to love,” she said. “I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give and how loved you are until the day you launch,” she added.

The pop star also reflected on singing the Louis Armstrong classic during the flight. “I’ve covered that song in the past, and obviously my higher self is always steering the ship, because I had no clue that one day, I would decide to sing a little bit of that in space,” she said. “I think that it’s not about me, it’s not about singing my songs. It’s about a collective energy in there, it’s about us,” she said about why she didn’t sing one of her hits.

“It’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging,” she said of the trip to the edge of space. “It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.”

She did not reveal when she would write the new song or who she would enlist as co-writers.
