Ever since Faith No More was founded in the early ’80s, the alt-metal band has always had issues with solidifying a forever lead singer. When they first began, the frontman of the band was Chuck Mosley. However, in 1989, they kicked Mosley out of the band and invited the then very young Mike Patton to join them. Since then, Faith No More has been switching on and off between Mosley and Patton. Though, according to a recent interview, it seems Patton is now entirely out of the equation, and given that Mosley passed away in 2017, he is as well.

The origins of the alleged feud between Patton and Faith No More date back to 2021 when the group announced that they would return to the road after a five-year hiatus. Those dates were canceled after Patton stated that he couldn’t perform due to some mental health issues brought on by the hectic and distressing nature of 2020.
Mike Bordin and the rest of the band respected Patton’s decisions and held no ill will against him. In a recent interview on the Let There Be Talk podcast, Bordin said regarding the matter, “It was very clear that he was unable at that point to physically do it. We made the decision that, ‘Look, we’ve gotta support our guy’” and “It wasn’t even an argument.” Though now that Patton has returned to the stage with Mr. Bungle, Bordin is skeptical about Patton’s true motives.
Why Bordin is “Hurt” by Mike Patton’s Actions
In his interview on Let There Be Talk, Bordin transparently divulged how Patton’s actions and decisions have affected him as both a bandmate and a friend. He told the host Dean Delray, “My statement on it is that he’s gone from being unable to do the shows to clearly being unwilling to do shows with us. And that’s heavy. That’s a big difference. That’s a big difference. And we haven’t really had much dialogue on it.”
“It doesn’t feel great to me. It honestly kind of hurts my feelings a little bit, but that’s personal. That’s a private thing. It’s business. We were never gonna force somebody to do something that they weren’t able to do. And now, as I say, it looks like it’s more really about being willing to do it,” concluded Mike Bordin.
Mike Bordin stated that he and Faith No More are thankful for their time with Mike Patton. Regardless, the future of Faith No More’s lead singer is still up in the air.
