“Wrote this song with my niece in mind,” she wrote. “When she was born I remember being in awe of how sweet and perfect she was & I (in true emo cowgirl fashion) was sad knowing that when she grows up the world may be cruel to her sometimes.”

Moroney continued, “Inevitably she’ll get her feelings hurt by friends or her heart broken or just have bad days & I wanted her to be able to have a song to listen to when & if she ever needs it.”

The lyrics of this snippet are heartfelt and encouraging, attempting to build someone up even in the face of hurt and disappointment. “You’re standing at your bathroom mirror crying ‘what did I do’ tears / your friends are out and you’re right here / There’s a party, you didn’t know, you just found out from your phone / Did they not want you to go?

The lyrics continue, “Oh yeah, you feel that twisting knife / Oh I know it ain’t right / Fires burn up canyons, a hurricane can wreck a beach / Words can make a mockingbird forget they’re born to sing / Lies can break a fragile heart / and doubt can crush your dreams / But honey just take it from me / The world is hard on beautiful things.

Fans in the comments of the video were moved by her emotional gesture. Many expressed love and support for the song. “i’m sobbing…a girls girl megan. we are so lucky to have you and your incredible talent,” one person wrote.

Another commented, “Omg… Megan… I feel like you just healed my inner child… wow. Chills. Crying. All the feelings.”

One special comment came from, allegedly, Moroney’s sister-in-law, Clare Hunt-Moroney. “Sweet Maggie is so lucky to have you as her Auntie Meg!” she wrote.
