On Monday, America took a moment to remember those who paid the ultimate price for freedom. At the same time, the American Music Association welcomed country music to Las Vegas for the AMA Awards. A night full of awards, special performances, and a few surprises, the event also celebrated the legacy of Zac Brown and his ongoing efforts to help, encourage, and support veterans. Receiving the first-ever Veterans Voice Awards, Brown discussed what he loved about the award.

Even before finding his seat at the AMAs, Brown spoke with Entertainment Tonight about being honored with the Veterans Voice Awards. Always looking for ways to give back, the singer said, “It’s great, man. Honored to get to work with the veterans, but the main thing I’m excited about because of this award is that it brings attention back to them and our thoughts to them…It’s not about me, it’s about honoring them and helping them to get their resources, to get the tools they need to help them to heal, and have successful families and transition back home.”
Zac Brown Declares “We Owe Them A Lot”
Already proving why he deserved such an award, Brown continued to focus on the veterans. “It’s incredible. We built a campus down in Georgia called Camp Southern Ground, where we serve a lot of veterans there and that’s the reason they were doing it, and it’s great because it brings awareness to that. It brings awareness, just when people see a veteran just to stop them and say, ‘Hey, thank you. Thank you for what you’ve done for us, thank you for your service’.”
Besides Brown dedicating his time to Camp Southern Ground, he also worked with Hope for the Warriors. The non-profit foundation supported veterans by offering them additional services and even aid for their families while transitioning.
As for Brown, he believed there was no better time to win the award than on Memorial Day. Given that it surrounded veterans, he concluded, “Yeah, it’s a big deal. It’s such a cool thing to do on Memorial Day for them as well. We owe them a lot. It’s an incredible place to get to live and we feel safe and free here because of what they’ve sacrificed for us.”
