Tony Iommi Reveals He’s Worried About the Upcoming Black Sabbath Reunion Show

Next month, Black Sabbath’s original lineup–Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward–will take the stage one final time. The event, called Back to the Beginning, will see the iconic band and some of the biggest names in modern metal taking the stage in Sabbath’s hometown of Birmingham, England. It will mark Osbourne’s final performance and the end of a long and storied era.

Toni Iommi Discusses His Worries Ahead of Black Sabbath’s Final Reunion

The original members of Black Sabbath haven’t shared the stage in two decades. However, that’s not the only thing making Tony Iommi nervous ahead of Back to the Beginning.

“This would be a big, monumental thing if it all comes good,” he said. “The worrying thing for me is the unknown. We don’t know what’s going to happen,” he added. “Normally, when we’d tour, we’d rehearse and run through the thing for a while, and it’s just us. But with this event, there are so many moving parts,” he explained.

One of the biggest uncertainties surrounding the event is Ozzy Osbourne’s performance. He is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. As a result, he is unable to walk. Some reports say he’ll perform while seated on a throne. Iommi isn’t sure what will happen when they take the stage in July. “You’re used to Ozzy running around, but he certainly won’t be doing that for this show. I don’t know if he’s going to be standing or sitting on a throne or what,” the legendary guitarist said.

“Once we start playing, then we’ll know we’re doing it. It’s always a worry, even when we did tours before,” he explained. “There’s always that build-up, and then it gets to the point that we do it and it’s okay.”
