Luke Combs was forced to make a very big choice during his college career. During an appearance on The Dog Walk podcast, the country singer revealed that, during his time at Appalachian State University, he had pick between joining a fraternity and an a capella group.

Combs shared that he rushed and got a bid to join Kappa Alpha Order, but wound up backing out due to a scheduling conflict.
“On Big Brother reveal night we had a concert for the a cappella group, the same night that was gonna be at the same time,” Combs said.
According to Combs, he was “already kind of over” the process of pledging, quipping, “Like, what is this? What are we, 10 years old? I’m not doing that.”
“Why does anyone really join a fraternity? To go to parties and meet chicks is kind of the deal, right?” he said. “So I tell the guys, ‘Hey, I really gotta do this concert tonight.’ Because there’s only like 12 people in the group, it’s not like there’s 1,000 guys in the a cappella group. I’m like, ‘Your boy’s got solos. I can’t just not go.’”
Combs’ would be brothers didn’t react well to that ultimatum, as he recalled them telling him, “Well, you gotta choose, dude. You’re either doing this or that.”
“I was like, ‘Well, I’m doing that, dude. I’m out,’” he said.
Luke Combs Believes He Made the Right Choice
Looking back, Combs said he “made the right choice, obviously.” Even so, he “would’ve loved to have been able to do both.”
“It was the idea that was making me pick one or the other,” Combs reflected. “… There was no wiggle room on that thing, and I was just like, ‘I kind of already sing and I’m already kinda good at that. All I’m doing with you guys is paying to be your friend, which I already have a lot of friends anyways.’ It just didn’t line up.”
At the end of the day, though, Combs said there’s “no hard feelings from me.”
He certainly chose right. Combs, who recently released his new single, “Back in the Saddle,” is gearing up to release his sixth LP.
“I’ve probably got one recording session left on it, but I’ve already recorded, I don’t know, over 30 songs, I would think,” he said on the Katie & Company podcast, before revealing that there’s still lots to be decided about his forthcoming recordI don’t know what it’s called yet… It’s hard to know without having everything recorded. “
