Singer/songwriter Benny Blanco and pop star Selena Gomez recently released their first collaborative album together, I Said I Love You First. The pop record has been making waves recently, namely for the budding love between the two artists, as well as the several guest musicians on the album. GloRilla and Gracie Abrams are just a few.

When it comes to that budding love, though, Blanco himself said that their relationship almost didn’t happen. In fact, he believed that Gomez “hated” him when they first met and that he had “friend-zoned” himself.
Blanco appeared on the Jay Shetty Podcast yesterday with Gomez. There, he discussed the new album as well as his relationship with his now-fiancee. According to Blanco, he was convinced that the “Lose You To Love Me” singer wasn’t a fan of his when they first started worth with each other.
“I thought she hated me, I really did,” said Blanco. “I would be like, ‘Wow, she really didn’t talk to me, I thought I was being nice.’ […] Obviously, ninety-nine percent of it was in my head.”
According to Blanco, he tried to get her attention again, but almost “friend-zoned” himself in the process.
“I was talking to her and I said, ‘Oh my God, I have so many good single guy friends, we have dinners at the house all the time, you should come over sometime,’” Blanco continued.
However, like all solid relationships, theirs started to bloom over a bit of self-deprecating humor.
“We were talking about ugly photos, because I always say that I take the worst photos sometimes,” Gomez said in the interview. “Maybe I thought it was just going to be flirting and not anything else. But I really just started to fall for him.”
Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s New Record Is Dazzling Fans
The pair’s new collaborative album was released on Friday, March 21. Fans have been pouring out a ton of love for the record, including some more famous fans like Taylor Swift. In fact, Swift even took to her Instagram Stories to say “I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH”.
Just as well, fans of both Gomez and Blanco’s music have been dishing out a ton of love for the pop album online.
“Album is a triumph!” said one fan. “So much heart. The opening dialogue!!!”
“One self made billionaire and one very successful hit making producer now THAT is a power couple!!” said another.
It’s not clear if the pair will collaborate again in the future. But given how well I Said I Love You First is doing, I wouldn’t be surprised if these two became the next big power couple in music.
