Nearly one year ago, viewers crowned Abi Carter the season 22 winner of American Idol over runner-up Will Moseley and Top 3 finalist Jack Blocker. The 22-year-old from Indio, California, was the first woman to win the show in over four years. Now, season 23 is down to its final 10 competitors, and Breanna Nix is hoping to follow in Carter’s footsteps. The 25-year-old stay-at-home mom from Denton, Texas, made her case for the Top 8 with a stunning performance of Adele’s “Water Under the Bridge.”

Breanna Nix Attempts to Outsing the Competition on ‘American Idol’
Sunday (May 4) is Ladies’ Night on the show, where the Top 10 paid tribute to iconic women in music with their performances. Country firebrand Miranda Lambert, an iconic female artist in her own right, served as a mentor to the remaining contestants.
Taking the American Idol stage, Breanna Nix delivered another strong performance of “Water Under the Bridge” by Adele. The singer-songwriter has consistently performed well throughout season 23, even bringing judge Carrie Underwood to tears with her own version of “Jesus, Take the Wheel.”

Tonight, the Top 10 will become the Top 8. Two Idol hopefuls will see their journeys come to an end. During Monday’s (May 5) episode, the Top 8 will battle it out in the Judges’ Song contest, performing songs secretly hand-picked by Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood.
“I Feel Like I Belong Now”
Breanna Nix has been on a journey of self-love since giving birth to son Emerson, and American Idol is part of that journey. Weighing 315 pounds just after he was born, Nix decided to get serious about her health.
Since then, she has dropped 160 pounds, and her Idol journey has served as a reminder that she can do hard things.
“I do feel like I belong now,” she told Parade. “When I first came into American Idol, I was hoping that I would just get through the audition, and not even get through to the point of getting a Golden Ticket, but just to make it through that moment.”
She continued, “Over every round, I feel like I’ve learned a little bit more about myself. Believing in yourself is really weird, but it’s a powerful thing. And I’m so happy that I’m finally being able to experience it.”
