In a new interview that aired on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio channel, Bruce Springsteen shared some enthusiastic praise for actor Jeremy Allen White’s portrayal of him in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere.

E Street Radio host Jim Rotolo pointed out that he’d seen photos of Springsteen on the Deliver Me from Nowhere set, and asked the Boss, “[I]s it weird to watch someone else pretend to be you?”
“A little bit at first,” Springsteen responded, “but you get over that pretty quick and Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it.”
Bruce added, “He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize and he’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun. I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
Rotolo also noted that White is singing in the film, and Springsteen gave the Emmy-winning star of The Bear a thumbs-up for his vocal performance.
“He sings well,” Bruce said. “He sings very well.”
Springsteen also praised actors Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, who portray, respectively, the Boss’ longtime manager Jon Landau and a love interest named Faye in the film.
“[I]t’s a tremendous cast of people,” Springsteen said. “They cast the film beautifully, so it’s very exciting.”
Springsteen Addressed Reports He’ll Be Releasing New Music in 2025
Rotolo also brought up a recent press release that reported that Bruce will be putting out new releases in 2025 that will include “a look back at [his] storied recording career, featuring never-before-heard material.”
The radio host asked Springsteen if he could offer any hints about the releases that are due out this year. Bruce responded, coyly, “There will be.”
Springsteen Debuted a Previously Unheard Cover Tune on the Show
Meanwhile, Springsteen also debuted a previously unreleased cover of a song called “Girlfriend” by former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap, who died in December 2024 at age 73.
“I don’t know if a lot of people are very familiar with [Dunlap],” Bruce noted, “but he was a member of The Replacements and he was really a unique guitarist, singer and songwriter and one of the deepest and truest rock & roll souls I’ve ever heard.”
Springsteen continued, “He has two fabulous solo albums out that I would tell everybody to run out and get.” “Girlfriend” appeared on Dunlap’s second solo album, Times Like This, which was released in 1996.
Bruce also explained that that his version of “Girlfriend” was cut “from a covers record that we were just fooling around with and working on in the studio with the band.” He decided to debut the track on E Street Radio “in honor of Slim Dunlap’s passing.”
SiriusXM subscribers can hear Springsteen’s “Girlfriend” cover on E Street Radio. An apparent bootleg version of the tune also has been posted on The Bruce Springsteen Studio Sessions YouTube channel.
Dunlap played with The Replacements from 1987 until the band broke up in 1991. In 2012, he suffered a severe stroke that ended his music career. Dunlap died of complications from the stroke.
More About Deliver Me from Nowhere
As previously reported, Deliver Me from Nowhere is based on musician-turned-author Warren Zanes’ 2023 non-fiction novel of the same name. The book tells the story of the making of Springsteen’s acclaimed, stripped-down 1982 acoustic album, Nebraska.
Springsteen and Landau are both involved in the production of the movie.
