Fans Who Wanted More Teddy Swims at the VMAs Can Now Watch His Full Performances of “The Door” and “Lose Control”

Last night (September 11), fans across the country tuned in to watch the 2024 MTV VMAs. Many hoped to see Teddy Swims perform his megahit “Lose Control.” Those fans got what they wanted. Kind of. Swims performed two songs during the broadcast—“Lose Control” and “The Door”—but only got about a minute of screen time between the performances.

Swims did not perform on the main stage at the VMAs. Instead, he and Jessie Murph took over the Doritos Extended Play Stage, a smaller side stage. As a result, fans watching from home only got to see abbreviated performances from both artists. Many took to social media to voice their frustrations over the shortened songs while wondering why Swims wasn’t on the main stage.

Fortunately, MTV uploaded the full performances from the Doritos Extended Play Stage to their YouTube channel last night. So, fans can finally see Swims do “Lose Control” and “The Door” in full.

Teddy Swims Had a Massive International Hit with “Lose Control”

Teddy Swims co-wrote “Lose Control” with Joshua Coleman, Julian Bunetta, Maren Rodriguez-Diaz Jr., and John Sudduth and released it as the second single from his debut album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1) in June 2023. After the longest climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in the chart’s history, it landed at No. 1 for one week. It also topped the publication’s Adult Contemporary and Adult Pop Airplay charts.

“Lose Control” also topped the charts in multiple other countries. More impressively, it achieved certifications of Platinum or higher in 15 countries. It was most popular in France, where the song is certified Diamond.

The song’s popularity likely hinges on how relatable it is. With “Lose Control” the singer/songwriter tapped into an almost universal part of the human condition.

“Being in love can be like an addiction sometimes—always chasing the highs from the lows,” Swims said of the song. “It’s about losing yourself and losing control when it all starts to cave in and thinking that the only way out is through being with that person, chasing that feeling over and over again,” he added.
