American Idol is taking the Grand Finale to church. In addition to Christian singer-songwriter Brandon Lake making an appearance, gospel pioneer Kirk Franklin will perform during the final episode. These two join a lineup of other talented artists helping to celebrate the next American Idol.

Franklin was joined by former American Idol contestant and fellow gospel singer Canaan James Hill. The two performed “Melodies From Heaven” and “Love Theory,” both songs by Franklin. Seated behind a piano, Franklin and Hill began with “Melodies” before beginning the energetic “Love Theory.”
Franklin showed off his best dance moves while Hill sang his heart out. Throughout the performance, Franklin encouraged Hill’s spirited vocals.
In a quick sneak peek on TikTok, Franklin showed his name on a trailer at the American Idol set. Posting this on Saturday, May 17, confirmed his involvement in the finale. Fans on social media were thrilled to see American Idol post the news that Franklin would be performing.
“This is going to the BEST Finale in Years,” one fan wrote. Many others shared this sentiment, leaving comments of encouragement and excitement.
American Idol Gears Up to Name New Winner On Grand Finale
The final American Idol contestants have worked hard to get to the Top 3, and now it all comes down to America’s vote. Jamal Roberts, Breanna Nix, or John Foster will walk away from this experience a winner, but fans will have to wait until the end of the night to find out who it will be.
In the meantime, the Grand Finale is offering plenty of notable performances to entertain fans. Brandon Lake and Kirk Franklin brought their unique Christian and gospel perspectives to the show, wowing the audience with their performances.
Additionally, Jessica Simpson, Salt-N-Pepa, Goo Goo Dolls, Josh Groban, and Patti LaBelle will take the stage. It is definitely shaping up to be a night of incredible artistry as the Top 3 contestants give their final performances of the show.
Artist-in-residence Jelly Roll is also performing after spending the season mentoring the hopeful contestants. He previously performed with Brandon Lake on the show, where they premiered their song “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”
Finally, the American Idol judges themselves will perform together. With this being Carrie Underwood’s first Grand Finale, it will be great to see how she turns up for the festivities. She’s known for putting on an elaborate show, and fans are hoping American Idol took some notes.
