Jesse Daniel Enlists Charles Wesley Godwin for Thoughtful New Single “Time Well Spent for a Man”

Last month, Jesse Daniel introduced his forthcoming album Son of the San Lorenzo with the lead single “My Time Is Gonna Come.” Today (April 16), he returns with a new sample from the largely autobiographical full-length. “Time Well Spent for a Man” features singer/songwriter Charles Wesley Godwin, the only guest appearance on the album. Daniel made waves last year with his critically acclaimed album Countin’ the Miles. On the album, he showcased a modernized version of the Bakersfield Sound. Son of the San Lorenzo will see him expanding the style that caught the ears of thousands of listeners. It blends his wide-ranging influences, including Merle Haggard, the Flying Burrito Brothers, the Allman Brothers, and others, into something wholly unique and recognizable while maintaining a level of familiarity.

Jesse Daniel Discusses “Time Well Spent for a Man”

Jesse Daniel talked about his new single and what it means to him in a press release. “This song was written by Northern California songwriter Nick Foster. It’s an ode to Father Time,” he shared. “To me, it’s also about focusing on the meaningful things in life. On our deathbed, we’ll remember raising our children, our spouse’s kiss, time spent doing what we loved, as opposed to how many hours we logged in the office,” he added. “I loved the message of this song and felt compelled to record it.”

Daniel also explained why he chose to feature Godwin on the track. “Charles Wesley Godwin came to mind with the subject matter,” he said. “He’s a family man and an incredible songwriter himself. His vocals really helped add to the depth of the whole thing.”

Jesse Daniel wrote most of the songs on the forthcoming album. He also arranged many of the songs, including the harmonies, lead guitar parts, percussion, and more. It was important to him to make the major decisions on Son of the San Lorenzo because the songs on it are so personal.

The new album will hit record store shelves and digital streaming platforms on June 6 via Lightning Rod Records. Fans can pre-order a physical copy or pre-save it digitally now.
