John Fogerty Celebrates His Classic Creedence Clearwater Revival Song “Bad Moon Rising” Reaching 1 Billion Streams on Spotify

John Fogerty has plenty to celebrate this holiday season. In a recent video message on his social media pages, the Creedence Clearwater Revival sent out holiday wishes to his fans, and also revealed some happy news about a streaming milestone reached by one of his old band’s classic tunes.

“Hey everybody, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and certainly Happy New Year to you all,” Fogerty said in the post, which he explained was recorded on Christmas Eve. “I have some incredible news. It’s a nice Christmas present for me. And that news is that my song ‘Bad Moon Rising’ has now passed 1 billion streams on Spotify.”

The 79-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer continued, “And, of course, I want to thank you, thank you all very much, all the billions and billions of people who have streamed my songs.” He then pointed out that “Bad Moon Rising” has become the third CCR song to reach the 1 billion-streams milestone, following “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and “Fortunate Son.”

As of December 26, those two songs have been streamed, respectively, 1.85 billion and 1.57 billion times on Spotify.

Fogerty Revealed That Christmas Eve Also Marked Another CCR Anniversary

In his message, Fogerty revealed that Christmas Eve marked an noteworthy anniversary in CCR history.

As he explained, “[Y]ou know, 57 years ago on Christmas Eve, I came up with the name Creedence Clearwater Revival. My how time flies!”

Before renaming themselves Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty’s band had been known as The Golliwogs.

Meanwhile, the video update also included footage from another recent social media post by Fogerty in which he shared the story behind writing “Bad Moon Rising.”

More About “Bad Moon Rising”

“Bad Moon Rising” was released as a single by CCR in April 1969. The song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late June of that year.

After its release as a single, “Bad Moon Rising” was included on Creedence Clearwater Revival’s chart-topping third album, Green River. The song also spent three weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. singles in September-October 1969.

In 2016, “Bad Moon Rising” was certified double platinum by the RIAA for equivalent sales of two million copies.

Fogerty’s 2025 Concert Plans

Fogerty only has three confirmed concerts scheduled for 2025. The performances, which take place January 22, 24, and 25, are the latest dates of John’s long-running Las Vegas residency at the Encore Theater, located at the Wynn resort.

The shows also are part of Fogerty’s ongoing The Celebration Tour, which features the former CCR frontman showcasing many of his old band’s classic songs.
