Legend wowed the crowd by singing his 2004 hit, “So High.” Playing piano throughout his performance, Legend captivated the audience with his stunning voice.
The performance came one day after the season’s Live Semi-Finals, where the Top 12 contestants faced off. Like their coach, the competitors on Team Legend rocked stage when it was their turn to perform.
Olivia Kuper Harris performed Ella Fitzgerald’s “Someone to Watch Over Me,” Bryson Battle covered Mariah Carey’s “Without You,” and Renzo closed out the show by singing Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”
On the May 13 episode, the Top 12 will be whittled down to the Top 5. That means seven contestants will get the boot ahead of next week’s finale.
John Legend Discussed Being a Coach on The Voice
In a February interview with NBC Insider, Legend revealed why he continues to return to The Voice season after season.
”I love that we get to be surrounded by so much talent. It’s really inspiring, truthfully,” he said. “I learn so much from being on this show.”
“It’s very renewing because I’ve been making records for 20 years now and to be around artists that have that hunger and that excitement is very renewing for me,” he added. “I love that experience.”
Legend said that his four kids also play a role in his repeated returns to the show.
“I live here in Los Angeles. I have four kids. It’s nice to work at home, basically,” he said. “And [to] be able to take my kids to school in the morning and then go to work.”
