Another tragic passing has struck the music world today, as Freddie Salem officially passed away at the age of 70. The former Outlaws guitarist battled cancer and his death occurred due to complications with the illness.

The Outlaws took to Facebook on Monday to confirm his passing writing in the post, “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to tell Outlaws fans about the passing of our former guitarist Freddie Salem.” They finished the statement by writing, “Freddie passed from complications due to cancer and will be remembered for his outgoing personality and passion for music. He first appeared with the Outlaws on the album Playin’ to Win and then remained in the band for the following 4 albums.”
In addition to the Outlaws’ comments, Salem’s current album, Freddie Salem & Lonewolf, also released a statement on Facebook. The statement read—”This morning, the Heavens parted for the arrival of a legend. Rock on high, Freddie Salem. Until we meet again.”
Freddie Salem—Rock ‘n’ Roll Royalty
Before his death, Salem’s skills held him in high regard within the rock ‘n’ roll world. Joining the Outlaws in 1977, Salem appeared on the band’s fourth studio album, Playin’ to Win, as a vocalist and guitarist. Subsequently, Salem would go on to create four more records with the band until his departure in 1983.
While with the Outlaws, Salem toured with the Rolling Stones as the opening act alongside Peter Tosh. Salem’s musical career is extensive and colorful, his life and track record were the epitome of what made a ’70s and ’80s rock icon.
Salem’s Everlasting Legacy
Salem will live on through his music, band members, and fans. His death marks another iconic musician who was taken from us far too soon. However, he did not pass in vain as his music and personality touched fans across the globe.
To sum up Salem’s character and the void his death will leave, the Outlaws wrote in their Facebook post, “He was an electric performer and beloved musician and he will be missed.” Freddie Salem joins Toby Keith, Dicky Betts, and numerous other famed musicians who have sadly passed in 2024.
