Neil Young Fears Being “Barred” From Playing in the United States: “What Does That Say for Freedom?”

Becoming a pillar in the music industry, Neil Young spent over six decades sharing his love for music with the world. And in that time, the singer never ran away from his thoughts about certain subjects, including politics. For some stars and singers, they tend to stay silent on hot topics like politics, but not Young. Able to share his thoughts on his own website, the singer often updated fans about his concerns. With Young sharing his disdain for the current White House administration and President Donald Trump, the singer admitted he might be “barred” from playing in the country again.

Holding citizenship in both Canada and the United States, Young often called Trump a “disgrace” and even blamed the Republican for the country losing its standing on the world stage. While not taking back his words, the singer knew that it might draw some backlash from the current administration. He wrote, “When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket.”

Knowing what could be waiting, Young prepared fans for the worst as he added, “If I come back from Europe and am barred, can’t play my USA tour, all of the folks who bought tickets will not be able to come to a concert by me.”

Neil Young Still Loves America

With Young having every right to share his opinion, the singer questioned how far Freedom protected him. “If the fact that I think Donald Trump is the worst president in the history of our great country could stop me from coming back, what does that say for Freedom? I love America and its people and its music and its culture.”

Warning others about the dangers that come with discussing one’s worries, Young suggested, “By these latest actions of our US government, it seems that those who speak out freely with their own opinions are now vulnerable to a non-existent Trump law.”

While Young might be worried about his own career in America, he promised that change was just around the corner. “Remember, all months have 30 days. One country, indivisible, with Liberty and Freedom for all. Remember that? I do.”
