The cat is out of the bag and the news has spread everywhere. Yes, Carrie Underwood is returning to American Idol for season 23 after winning season four of the show in 2005. Given the full-circle context of Underwood’s judging debut, the season has undeniably been one of the most anticipated in recent history, and it’s not stopping, as Underwood just gave fans another sentimental American Idol moment.

American Idol has crafted and leaned into the plethora of publicity opportunities Underwood’s judging presence offers. That being so, Carrie Underwood in conjunction with American Idol, took to Instagram and posted a video of her reading a journal entry from her competing days.
Written at 21-years-old, the entry is everything you expected it to be and wanted from it. It’s heartfelt, and sentimental, and shows just how vital American Idol has been for Underwood’s career. Also, according to Underwood’s comment on the post, it seems reflecting on her American Idol career will be a new digital series aligned with this season of the show. So, this is seemingly not the end of this type of material.
Carrie Underwood Takes Viewers Back to Her ‘American Idol’ Early Days
In the clip, Underwood reads from her journal and starts by stating, “I just have to keep in mind that it will all be worth it, and the life I’ve started will be great. Most importantly, I have to remember that this has all been my choice and it’s something I’ve wanted ever since I was a little girl.”
“I know I have some great things ahead of me right now. I’m just trying to live in the moment and appreciate it all. I never dreamed that all of this would happen to me. I love it,” Underwood concluded in the video segment of her post.
When Underwood wrote this entry at 21-years-old, maybe she was just being optimistic by saying “I know I have some great things ahead.” Though, regardless, this visualization certainly worked out for. Also, how dramatically and theatrically appropraite is that Underwood’s past is now directly meeting her present. Not only is it heartwarming, but it also makes for some commercially sound and must-see TV.
