“Prayers for Ronnie Dunn”: Brooks & Dunn Star Sparks Concern, Leaves Stage Mid-Song During Indianapolis Show

Ronnie Dunn is having a rough go of it lately. The Brooks & Dunn singer took an unplanned eight-week vacation after injuring his leg in a December skiing accident. Now he’s back onstage with Kix Brooks for the country duo’s Neon Moon tour. However, fans are expressing concern after video footage surfaced of the 71-year-old country star apparently under the weather during a recent show in Indiana.

Fans Send Prayers Ronnie Dunn’s Way

Last month, Brooks & Dunn kicked off their Neon Moon Tour in Lubbock, Texas. On Thursday (April 4), the legendary duo hit Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. As they played their 1991 signature song “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” those in the crowd couldn’t help but notice that all was seemingly not well with Ronnie Dunn.

At one point, the Country Music Hall of Famer sat down on the stage risers and continued to play. Mid-song, he looked at a member of the band, made a gesture indicating he was done, waved to the crowd, and walked offstage.

As footage from the concert began making the rounds on social media, fans expressed concern for Dunn’s health. Some pointed out that the “Cost of Livin’” crooner was still recovering from a recent double whammy of strep. Just two weeks before, Dunn had powered through the duo’s RodeoHouston set in front of a record-breaking crowd.

“We call it strovid,” he said. “If you hear the wrong notes tonight, we’ll blame it on that. Any other time it’s just me.”

Others paid their respects to Dunn’s bandmate. “Feel better Ronnie but what a trooper Kix Brooks to carry on the show,” another TikTok user commented.

What Brooks & Dunn Told Taylor Swift

Once upon a time, Taylor Swift was a country singer. More than a decade ago, just before her pivot to pop music, the 14-time Grammy winner performed Brooks & Dunn’s 2001 chart-topper “Ain’t Nothing ’bout You” on the duo’s Last Rodeo Tour.

Speaking with Parade recently, Ronnie Dunn recalled the gravity of that moment. “I just told her how proud I was of her for doing that stuff, and big thanks,” he said. ““It’s funny. [Kix and I] caught ourselves being pigeonholed strictly for the sake of the public, [and an] emphasis is put on [us] being Brooks & Dunn the duo. Well, we’re songwriters … That’s where it gets really exciting to hear somebody do one of your songs that you wrote.”
