Richard Ashcroft Claims He’s the “Only Person” Who Could Open for Oasis’ Reunion Tour

Oasis is set to kick off their long-awaited reunion tour on July 4 in Cardiff, Wales, at Principality Stadium. Ever since the band announced their reunion last year, following their 15-year hiatus, fans have been buzzing like crazy about what we can expect from the tour. Likewise, a lot of fans have been speculating on who will open for the famous Britpop outfit. Now, it looks like Cast, Cage The Elephant, Ball Park Music, and Richard Ashcroft (formerly of The Verve) are set to support Oasis on their upcoming international tour.

And according to the latter, Ashcroft is the “only person” who could open for the band. And he even made that clear to the band’s lead guitarist and vocalist, Noel Gallagher.

Richard Ashcroft recently sat down with Chris Moyles for a chat on the latter’s show on Radio X, where the subject of Oasis came up right away.

You can listen to Ashcroft talk about the upcoming reunion via the clip below.

Richard Ashcroft, The Verve, and Oasis Had a Mutually Beneficial Relationship in the 1990s

“I see it as I’ve got a very important part to play in this,” said Ashcroft in the interview.

Ashcroft went on to say that Oasis and The Verve supported each other in their respective heydays. Oasis supported The Verve in 1993, and The Verve opened for Oasis in 1995. Likewise, Ashcroft has also performed with Oasis as a soloist in 1995. Ashcroft also contributed vocals to Oasis’ Be Here Now tune “All Around The World”.

“I said to Noel [Gallagher], ‘You know, I think I’m the only person who could go in this slot,’” Ashcroft recalled. “‘Especially for a huge outdoor show, because everyone wants your lot. And unless you’re coming with something, unless you’ve got something to offer, I don’t know what’s gonna happen.’”

“I think it’s great that we’re still around,” said Ashcroft. “I’ve been there almost in that whole story together with them. Right from the day one.”

It’s hard to disagree with Ashcroft on the notion that he’s the only one who could open for an Oasis reunion. He’s closely associated with the 90s Britpop era, just as Oasis is.

Tickets to Oasis’ 2025 reunion tour have long been sold out. There’s a chance that more dates will be added for fans who missed out, but the band has not announced anything official yet.
