With the event held at the famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Wednesday, the venue appeared to be the perfect place to celebrate the accomplishments made to genres like Gospel, folk, country, and blues. For Ferrell, she walked away with awards for Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. Another winner during the night was Brandy Clark, who won Song of the Year.

Excited about the win, Clark said, “I have struggled most of my career with where my music fits and you guys have made me feel at home. I remember I was at a low time of not fittin’ in and [Americana Music Association executive director] Jed Hilly invited me to play AmericanaFest.” Clark took a moment to thank other industry professionals like Gail Gellman and Tracy Gershon.

Sierra Ferrell Recalls The Time She Died

Much like Clark, Ferrell had more than a few struggles in her life. Growing up in West Virginia, the singer watched as drugs took over the beautiful state. Deciding to leave to save herself from the same fate as others, Ferrell recalled how she relapsed and died. “I just like collapsed on the floor. And I looked up, and like, Chris was like smacking me in the face. And he is like, ‘Sierra, wake up.’ And it was like time didn’t exist anymore.”

Explaining how she noticed a “pin of light” above her, Ferrell insisted, “And the only thing I knew that existed was pure bliss. And I saw these figures in a circle, and they knew who I was. And they’re just like, ‘Come, be with us. Come to us. It’s time. Come home.’”

Settling down in Nashville, Ferrell took responsibility for her own life. “Taking accountability is huge. Miraculously, things in your life just start to happen better.”
