The theme of the night was the Judges’ Song Contest. Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan each picked a song for every single contestant to sing. The contestant then picked their choice out of the three options, without knowing which judge suggested the tune.

Nalley had to choose between three great songs: “Hope the High Road,” “Atlantic City,” and “Believe.” He wound up selecting the second song, which Bruce Springsteen released in 1993.

The performance followed Nalley’s Top 8-securing time on stage, during which he sang Reba McEntire’s “Whoever’s in New England.”

Bryan selected the Springsteen track for Nalley, saying that the contestant “puts out that vibe.”

“I loved the way you did bring the energy to it,” Bryan praised. “It was great.”

Richie agreed that Nalley “pulled that off with amazing abilities,” while Underwood said that his performance was “great.”

Slater Nalley Gushes Over His Time on American Idol

In an interview with Parade, the teen praised the “really talented people” competing this season, and marveled over being continuously voted through to the next round.

“Everybody’s more talented than the next. I’ve never been in a situation where I can’t tell who’s the most talented, because everybody here is just equally talented, and it’s going to be really hard for America to vote,” he said. “But hearing that I got put into the Top 10, America’s pick, was one of the coolest moments. I was really happy to hear the news that people are enjoying my music. At the end of the day, that’s what I’ve always wanted.”

As a whole, Nally said he’s “enjoying every minute” of his time on Idol.

“I’m so happy to be here,” he said. “I’m happy to be able to share my music with everybody, and the response has been great from everybody, so it’s been cool to see that.”
