Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ Has Officially Re-Entered the Top 5 of the Billboard 200—Eight Years After Its Release

Taylor Swift’s famous 2017 album Reputation has officially re-entered the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 chart as of today. The majority of the recent album sales come from streaming, which has increased by 125% since Swift recently nabbed the rights to her music.

Swift has made a habit of re-recording her old albums with the Taylor’s Version project series. Reputation is one of the last albums Swift has managed to get to. She said herself that getting back into the particular headspace of that era was difficult. You might remember the whole Kanye West and Kim Kardashian debacle. Swift said she only managed to get a quarter through re-recording it.

Now, after it has been announced that Swift finally bought back the rights to her old music, we likely won’t hear a fully re-recorded Reputation anytime soon. And that doesn’t seem to be a problem for her fans. They have been revisiting the original album en masse recently.

How Did Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ Jump Back Into the Billboard 200?

It’s not often that an eight-year-old album re-enters the coveted Billboard 200 chart. So, how did Taylor Swift manage it?

You might have heard that Swift was recently finally able to buy back her masters. The hitmaker recently made an enormous deal to reacquire the rights to her original master recordings of her first six studio albums, with an estimated bill of about $360 million. Back in 2019, Scooter Braun acquired the rights to six albums’ worth of Swift’s music, which she has criticized publicly ever since, as she was not given the chance to buy her music herself. The rights were later sold to an investment firm.

Following the recent deal, Swift now owns virtually every piece of music she’s ever made, including music videos, concert films, album art, and even unreleased tracks. Her fans have likely been revisiting the album, now that Swift actually owns it.

In a recent statement posted to her website, Swift talked about how she feels about the recent news.

“I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away,” said Swift. “But that’s all in the past now. I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words. All of the music I’ve ever made … now belongs… to me.”
