On the surface, the only thing The Beatles and Ozzy Osbourne have in common is the fact that their British. However, no matter their differences, Ozzy Osbourne still found deep inspiration from The Beatles. Now, his on-stage antics and overall disposition are not where he found the inspiration of course. Like many musicians of his generation, Ozzy Osbourne looked at The Beatles as a blueprint and ray of hope. After all, Ozzy did share a fairly similar upbringing to The Beatles, as he was just a regular guy from a working-class family in Birmingham, England. So, in essence, The Beatles helped Ozzy tap into his full potential.
Ozzy Osbourne Owes It All to The Beatles
In an interview with The End The Silence campaign, Ozzy Osbourne opened up about how The Beatles changed his whole view on music and his participation in it. He told the charity, “‘She Loves You’ had such an impact on me. I remember exactly where I was” and “I was walking down Witton Road in Aston, I had a blue transistor radio and when that song came on I knew from then on what I wanted to do with my life.”
Osbourne continued, “This was so brand new and it gave me a great feeling. Then I became an avid Beatles fan – they were great.” “I owe my career to them because they gave me the desire to want to be in the music game,” added Ozzy Osbourne.
Again, Osbourne holds very few similarities to The Beatles. However, in regard to his hopes and dreams, the two parties are nearly identical. Which for Osbourne, was partially why he found such a profound inspiration in their music. In that same interview, Osbourne shed light on the fact that The Beatles paved the way for any working-class kid with musical dreams. So, following that day in Aston, Ozzy Osbourne became a fervent Beatle fan and decided to actively pursue a music career.
Given their stark contrasts, one might wonder how Osbourne turned into the bat-bitting heavy metal rager after listening to The Beatles. Regardless, if it wasn’t for The Beatles’ spark, Ozzy Osbourne seemingly would have never become the person everyone knows him as today. Leave it to The Beatles to contribute to the world of music in yet another unexpected fashion.
