Alanna Lynise Sends The Voice Coaches into a Frenzy

21-year-old Alanna Lynise took the stage and launched into a stunning rendition of “Issues” by Julia Michaels. Almost as soon as she began, she received two chair turns from Adam Levine and Michael Bublé. As she closed out her audition, Kelsea Ballerini joined the other two, turning her chair. The only coach who didn’t was John Legend, who, admittedly, had a good reason.

“Now you might be wondering, ‘Why did John not turn and all these other three coaches are fighting over me?’” Legend explained in the clip, adding, “I don’t have any spots left on my team, I literally could not turn.” He continued, “I would’ve turned probably like, within the first 15 seconds because I loved your intonation and the confidence and the poise you showed. All three of them turned for you, and I’m so excited for you.”

Then, it was time for Levine, Bublé, and Ballerini to make their cases to Lynise. They had to fight tooth and nail against each other to convince her, as is the norm for The Voice. Coaches have gotten pretty clever with their pleas in the past, but these three chose to shower Lynise in complements.

“I love that you chose that song. It’s one of those tricky ones that has a lot going on but it’s also a bit subdued—and the way you did it I thought was so cool,” said Levine. “You have that distinct quality that makes a voice memorable and man, that’s all I care about. You’re the kind of voice I want on my team. You’re one of my favorites in this competition.”

Michael Bublé and Kelsea Ballerini Fight Against Adam Levine and Each Other to Secure Alanna Lynise on Their Team

Kelsea Ballerini took a chance on Alanna Lynise, sharing that she had “one spot left” on her team. However, she followed her gut when she heard Lynise sing. “I will follow my gut into the depths of the night and just let it lead me where ever because I just trust that and especially with music, especially with voices, the voices that make you feel something, that’s what music’s about,” said Ballerini.

She continued, “Normally I turn first when I hear a voice like yours, but Adam always turns last, and he usually gets the best people, and so I’m just using reverse psychology to see if it’s going to work in my favor at this point. I would love for you to be my last button push of my first season.” Ballerini then added, “Girls stick together.”

Michael Bublé, however, had a different approach to his pitch. He started by calling out Levine for his pitching style, saying, “he’s consistent when he says that you’re his favorite. He said it about six different times.” Then, Bublé got down to brass tacks.

“They’ve said a lot about what you could do for their time,” he said. “I don’t ask you what you could do for me. I’m asking, ‘What can I do for you?’ And that’s what this pitch is. I want to be with you every step of the way so that we could share it and say, ‘Look what we did together. We won The Voice.’”

The clip ends with Alanna Lynise contemplating all three pitches. She has a big decision to make, and fans can tune in tonight at 8 ET on NBC to see who she picks as her coach.
