Originally, The Weeknd planned to release his newest album on Friday. January 24. However, the musician has now changed the release date to January, 31. Even though The Weeknd still plans to release the album, he has not divulged any plans to reschedule the album-release concert.
The Weeknd Shares Official Announcement
To announce the news and pay homage to the city of LA, The Weeknd took to Instagram to share his thoughts and plans. He started the post by writing, “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the Rose Bowl show has been canceled and the album date has been postponed.” In addition to the logistical matters at hand, The Weeknd also touched on the more sentimental side of fires.
“The city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me” and “My thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time,” The Weeknd added. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild,” He concluded in his post.
The Weeknd is far from the only celebrity contributing to the wildfire relief effort. Other celebrities participating include Beyoncé, Fat Tony, Jennifer Gardner, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Additionally, FireAid, a relief fund concert, will take place on January 30 with a currently unreleased line-up.
Despite the postponement of his album, The Weeknd still intends to carry out all the plans he has surrounding it. One of those plans is a film of the same name starring Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega. However, there is not a solidified release date for the film. The Weeknd’s announcement not only comes as good news for the greater LA community but also is a testament to the unwavering solidarity of the city and its inhabitants.
