This Modern-Day Cover of Kris Kristofferson’s Classic “Help Me Make It Through the Night” Has the Internet Buzzing

Ernest recently took to Instagram to share a candid and raw cover of Kris Kristofferson’s No. 1 hit, “Help Me Make It Through The Night.” Originally released by Kristofferson in 1970, the song undeniably remains as one of the late singer/songwriter’s greatest hits.

Ernest’s selection of Kristofferson’s song is rather surprising given his country style. The 33-year-old musician is heavily entrenched in the commercialized Nashville country music scene, and his collaborations with Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, and Lainey Wilson would suggest just that. Furthermore, his hit songs “What It’s Come To” and “Feet Wanna Run” don’t necessarily allude to an outlaw persona such as Kristofferson’s.

Although, with all that in mind, maybe this is Ernest’s career transition. After all, the post did leave a fairly cryptic set of eyeballs in the comment section.

Ernest’s Return to The Roots

The video Ernest shared on social media contrasted nearly everything he has done up to this point in his career. It was not heavily produced and really focused on the beautiful lyrics that Kristofferson wrote years ago. Frankly, when you realize who is singing the song, you might be a bit surprised.

Despite the unfamiliar style, Ernest does a phenomenal job sticking to the guns of the song and not altering it to a fault. In short, he stays tried and true to the original. Nothing about Ernest’s cover seems fake or half-baked. In short, the man can sing in a way that rivals some of the greats.

In addition to hearing his beautiful rendition of the song, fans are seemingly wondering what message Ernest is trying to send with both the cover and the comment. To be specific, the only statement that came from the post was the following: “👀.”

Now, there is no way to truly know what Ernest is alluding to with this emoji. However, given the Kristofferson cover, maybe Ernest will release a full version of the song and possibly several other classic covers. Although, that is merely wishful thinking on our end. For now, all country fans can do is wait and see Ernest evolve right before our eyes.
