A modern-day artist’s social media presence is almost as valuable as the music they create, and as country star Thomas Rhett demonstrated, he’s willing to do just about anything to grab the online community’s attention—even if that means getting a face tattoo.

The “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Woman” singer shared his needle, er, tongue-in-cheek post to Instagram in February 2025, calling out some fellow inked-up country stars while he did it.
Thomas Rhett Gets… A Face Tattoo?
In the wild, wild West that is modern social media, a user only has a few seconds to grab someone’s attention. (And honestly, “few” might be an overestimation.) Thomas Rhett proved that he is more than capable of stopping a scroller in their tracks with his February 2025 Instagram reel. The eye-catching video features him getting a face tattoo of the word “Lauren” across his cheek. The Lauren in question is, of course, Rhett’s wife and muse behind his August 2024 album About a Woman. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Rhett showed he wasn’t just willing to write an entire record about his wife. He was willing to etch her name in cursive onto his face forever.
…well, not quite. Countless Instagram users commented on their shock and disbelief about Rhett’s stunt. But if you take a closer look at his post, it’s clear that he’s just pulling the internet’s leg. “They said we needed content,” Rhett wrote in his caption. Granted, the idea that an artist should have to go so far as to tattoo their body to get their likes and share counts up is pretty hilarious. Nevertheless, his prank video makes for a compelling watch.
Rhett sings the sixth track off About a Woman, “After All The Bars Are Closed,” while a woman clad in pink latex gloves “tattoos” his cheek. Credit where credit is due, the production crew did a good job making the tattoo look realistic by leaving part of the word “Lauren” in the purple stencil color and the part the tattoo artist is “going over” in black as if she really was mid-tattoo.
The Country Star Shouts Out Other Musicians With Ink
Granted, even if Thomas Rhett really did have a face tattoo, it’s not like he would be the only one in the country music industry rocking that kind of ink. Rhett gave a shout out to Post Malone, Jelly Roll, and Teddy Swims, tagging each artist in the comment section and asking them what they thought of his “tattoo.” Funnily enough, many commenters name-dropped Posty before Rhett even tagged him on the post. (Of course, if Rhett was looking to achieve the same look as Post, Jelly, or Swims, he’d need about…oh, 11 or 12 more tattoos on his forehead, cheeks, and eyebrows.)
Responses to Rhett’s tattoo post ranged from outrage to approval to hilarious, with one commenter adding, “I’m thinking next you do all four girls on your forehead… then maybe ‘Go Vols!’ on your other cheek to really show [Lauren] how much you love her.”
Whatever the response, Rhett tricking us all into listening to “After All The Bars Are Closed” over and over while we rewatch the video to see if the tattoo was actually real is a genius social media move. 10/10. No notes.
