Watch: Alabama Gives Tim McGraw’s Nephew a Tip of the Hat for His Acoustic Rendition of “Lady Down on Love”

Tim McGraw‘s musical genes run in the family! On Monday, the country superstar took to Instagram to share a video of his nephew’s vocal chops, which left fans in awe.

In the clip, Timothy Wayne expertly performs “Lady Down on Love,” a track first released by Alabama in 1977. The Louisiana State University student’s voice is strong and confident in the clip. He expertly pulled viewers in as he sang and played the guitar.

“My nephew @timothywayne throwing down some @thealabamaband,” McGraw captioned the video.

Social media users were impressed by the showing, dubbing Wayne “awesome” and praising his “beautiful voice” in the comments section.

Wayne posted the clip himself first. He revealed in his post that the video was taken in the bathroom at Texas Club, a Louisiana venue he recently played.

“Acoustics were great!” he wrote of the space, before asking the original band, “How’d I do?”

It’s safe to say Alabama approved of the cover. The band shared Wayne’s rendition of the track on their Instagram Story.

Timothy Wayne’s Career Thus Far

Despite growing up with his famous uncle, Wayne is new to the music scene himself.

“I was at the point in my life where college had pretty much taken everything over. I was writing a lot. I was playing a few shows, but I wasn’t really looking to expand beyond that quite yet,” Wayne told The Advocate. “I stepped in for some friends at the Bluebird Cafe and did a couple of songs and a video made its way to UMG—and things kind of just blossomed from there.”

Since then, the college student released his debut song, “God Made a Country Boy,” as well as a follow up track, “Guy With a Guitar.” He finished up the year by releasing a cover of Mel McDaniel’s 1980 track, “Louisiana Saturday Night.”

Wayne has also spent some time on the road. He opened a view shows on McGraw’s Standing Room Only Tour last summer. Wayne, who made his national television debut during the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day, has two shows on the books for 2025.
