Growing up with Willie Nelson as his father, Lukas Nelson learned a great deal about the music industry and the power of songwriting. But at the same time, Lukas learned to harness his voice and released albums like Something Real and Naked Garden. While leaving his own mark in country music, Lukas recently showcased a different side of himself as he decided not to sing but simply play the guitar.

Just like his father, Lukas is known for his voice and how it appeared to encompass all that is great about country music. But the country singer is also a promising guitar player. Wanting to show that side of himself, Lukas recently shared a video of himself on Instagram playing a 1964 Rickenbacker 365. Apparently, the star received the famed guitar from his uncle Dahr. Lukas wrote in the caption, “Love this little ‘64 Rickenbacker 365 my uncle Dahr sent over! Thanks, Dahr!”
Gaining over 3,000 likes, fans filled the comment section with love and praise. “Hey little brother your pickin sounds like gold. Write us up more great songs. I love you.” Another comment included, “I love watching musicians facial expressions when they are doing what they love.” And for one fan, they recalled the moment they received a Rickenbacker 365. “My dad gave me a ‘66 Rickenbacker 365 for my 12th birthday. Forever a soft spot for the Ricks.”

Lukas Nelson Declared “I’m Just An American Son”
Outside of his own career, Lukas performed with his father countless times over the years. Always willing to share a song with Willie, the singer remembered what it was like growing up with a country icon as his dad. “I grew up in Maui and Austin and on the road. I mean, I grew up in the United States.” He continued, “I grew up on the interstate. I grew up in diners, in truck stops and in hotel rooms. I grew up on the road with Dad, and my dad is everybody’s dad, so I’m just an American son.”
With music all around him, Lukas knew he would eventually find his way to the stage. And it all started at 11 years old. “It’s hard to pinpoint an exact moment but I do remember the moment where I felt like I was a musician and it’s when I wrote a song when I was about 11 years old, called ‘You Were It.’”
