Watch: Miley Cyrus Shares “Prelude” Music Video From Her Upcoming Pop Opera Album

It appears as though Miley Cyrus is in her Björk era. And I’m not mad about it.

Miley Cyrus just dropped the first music video from her upcoming visual album, Something Beautiful. Cyrus has been pretty quiet about the details surrounding the upcoming release. All we know is that it will be a “pop opera” of sorts inspired by the famed concept album The Wall by Pink Floyd. The record will also be a visual album not unlike Beyonce’s Lemonade.

However, what’s really fascinating about this upcoming record is how artistic and mesmerizing it is. The focus is equally on quality music and engaging visuals, as evidenced in the recently-dropped music video for “Prelude”.

Miley Cyrus Gets Trippy in Her New Music Video for “Prelude”

In the music video for “Prelude”, Miley Cyrus doesn’t make an appearance until the final part of the song. For about a minute and a half, the visuals engage the viewer while Cyrus delivers spoken-word poetry.

“Like when following an image from a train / Your eyes can’t keep the passing landscapes from being swallowed into endless distance / Like when holding a fist full of ashes your hands can’t save the things that have already been dissolved into air.”

The video was directed by Brendan Walter and Jacob Bixenman. Benoît Debie has also been named as the cinematographer of the upcoming film that will accompany the record in June. You might have seen her work in films like Spring Breakers and The Runaways.

This is really going to be a stunning release from Cyrus, not unlike the artistic visual work and glittering sonic soundscapes you’d find in Björk’s Utopia or a 1970s art house film.

This is a really stunning way to introduce Something Beautiful, Cyrus’ upcoming 13-track visual album. The record is out on May 30, but fans are already craving more content from the album.

Fashion appears to be a big focus of the album as well. In the video for “Prelude”, Cyrus can be seen wearing a vintage 1997 Thierry Mugler fit. In a preview of the album’s artwork posted earlier this week, Cyrus can also be seen wearing high fashion from the 1990s.
