Last Saturday (October 5), Miranda Lambert took over the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tennessee for her Music for Mutts benefit concert. Presented by Tractor Supply, the event raised money for Lambert’s Mutt Nation nonprofit which donates to pet shelters in need of supplies. The “Wranglers” singer tapped special guests Dan + Shay, Little Big Town, Jake Worthington, Riley Green, and more to fill out the lineup.

Green was originally scheduled to headline the Field & Stream Festival in Winnsboro, South Carolina over the weekend. However, the festival was canceled due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. So, he made the best of the bad situation and joined Lambert to raise money for animal shelters across the country. During the concert, they shared the stage for a beautiful acoustic duet of Green’s “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” Lambert shared a snippet of their performance on social media.
“Riley Green’s show last Saturday got cancelled due to Hurricane Helene and he called me up and asked if he could come sing a song at Mutt Nation’s Music for Mutts to help out the pups,” Lambert wrote in the post.
Miranda Lambert’s Mutt Nation
Miranda Lambert founded Mutt Nation with her mother, Bev, fifteen years ago. So far, the nonprofit has raised more than $10 million for animal shelters. The funds go to support shelters, promote adoption, and aid in transporting animals during natural disasters among other things.
The Music for Mutts concert raised more money for the foundation. However, Lambert wasn’t content with just putting on a benefit show. She also held a public adoption event ahead of the show which featured animals from various local shelters.
Riley Green Paid Tribute to His Grandfathers with “I Wish Grandpas Never Died”
Riley Green wrote “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” and released it as the third single from his album Different ‘Round Here. While it seems that Green wrote the song solo, he gave credit to the men who inspired it—his late grandfathers Buford Green and Lendon Bonds.
The song peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and remains a favorite among Green’s fans today.
