Despite being an alumnus of American Idol, Carrie Underwood has still seemingly had quite the learning curve during her re-integration into the program. After all, she did win the show quite some time ago, so there are of course some minor changes she has to get adjusted to. On Wednesday, March 5, all three of the American Idol judges appeared on Good Morning America to promote Underwood’s debut and the first episode of season 23. Which airs on March 9 at 8 pm EST on ABC. In addition to promoting the show, Bryan also shared how he taught one major American Idol secret to Carrie Underwood and consequently, everyone who tuned into the show for their segment.
Luke Bryan Shocks Carrie Underwood With This Audition Trick
In the interview, Bryan stated, “Early in the tapings, Carrie didn’t know that you could start telling the contestants what to sing” and “Carrie’s like, ‘We can do that?’” “So the fun part about that is when you really see something magical in a kid and the other two judges may not, but you can really take ownership of this one particular contestant,” continued Luke Bryan.
Bryan is not the only one who has utilized this practice, as his co-star and longtime American Idol judge, Lionel Richie, has also done the same. Bryan attested to the fact by divulging to GMA, “And Lionel and I have done that in years past, so it’s really fun when you can feel a connection with a kid and start really kind of cheering them on and doing things in your mind that you think will help them navigate the thing.”
Luke Bryan added, “So it’s been really fun watching [Carrie Underwood] learn stuff like that and we’re just having a blast with the talent. It’s really awesome this year.” If you want to see Bryan’s secret trick play out on television, remember to tune in on March 9 at 8 pm EST on ABC.
