With the 2025 Coachella Music Festival kicking off this weekend, Weezer continued to prepare for their upcoming set at the historic event come Saturday. Year after year, the festival appeared to grow as it welcomed countless people to the California desert. While excited to take the stage with Weezer, Scott Shriner found himself dealing with some family troubles when his wife, Jillian Shriner, ended up in police custody for attempted murder. Still, even with Jillian facing legal repercussions, Shriner hoped to perform at Coachella.

On April 8th, the Los Angeles Police Department conducted a search in the Eagle Rock neighborhood after three suspects fled from a hit-and-run. With officers looking for the suspects, they stumbled on Jillian who was standing in her yard, holding a handgun. As the officers advised her to put the gun down, she continued to hold the weapon, and apparently, pointed it at one of the officers.
According to a statement from Detective Meghan Aguilar, “At that point, there were some commands given, multiple commands to drop the gun, drop the weapon, unfortunately, it did result in an officer-involved shooting,” Struck during the ordeal, Jillian eventually surrendered to the police and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Back at the scene of the shooting, officers located a 9mm handgun. Discussing the case, the LAPD Director of Communications, Jennifer Forkish, explained how Jillian not only pointed the gun at officers but even shot at them. “Our investigation revealed evidence such as a shell casing and video footage showing she repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers.”
Having to appear in court on April 30th, Jillian posted the $1 million bond on Wednesday and was released. While a shocking series of events, many wondered if Shriner would perform at Coachella with Weezer. And with Jillian facing charges of attempted murder, nobody would blame the musician for skipping the festival. But ready to rock, Shriner promised to be on stage.
When asked about his wife’s current condition, Shriner used the opportunity to promote Coachella. He said, “She’s alright, thank you for asking.” Walking away, he added, “See you at Coachella!”
