Emily Armstrong’s Early Life and Highschool Experience

At the age of 11 in her home city of Los Angeles, Armstrong started playing the guitar, writing songs, and soaking up the musical Kool-Aid. By 15, she had started to actually sing and as a result, she seemingly could not put her music career on hold any longer. Thus, Armstrong decided to drop out of high school and fervently pursue her music career.

Dead Sara and Other Musical Collaborations

Armstrong’s gamble paid off, as she and a few other musicians started the band, Dead Sara, and released numerous albums and singles. Including their 2011 breakthrough single, “Weatherman.” Matter of fact, Dave Grohl once stated, “Dead Sara should be the next biggest rock band in the world,” per BBC.

Thanks to her work with Dead Sara, Emily Armstrong received an invite from none other than Courtney Love to sing backing vocals on her album, Nobody’s Daughter. Additionally, Armstrong also co-wrote songs for Demi Lovato’s album, Holy Fvck.

Her 2019 Try-Out

Linkin Park’s selection was not an instantaneous decision. Rather, Emily Armstrong attended a three-day try-out Linkin Park hosted in 2019 in hopes of joining the band. However, the band didn’t officially decide to bring on Armstrong until years later when she joined the band on their single, “The Emptiness Machine.”

When reliving his decision, Mike Shonda stated, “When I started to hear Emily’s voice on things, my brain, it was like the first time that my brain would accept it as a Linkin Park song,” per Apple Music.
