Timothée Chalamet has taken on his most daunting and difficult role yet by depicting Bob Dylan in the upcoming film, A Complete Unknown. Given the risk a role such as this one entails, Chalamet did not haphazardly prepare for this role. Chalamet, who is rumored to receive an Oscar nom for the film, spent six years learning how to play the guitar and sing like the ever-unique Bob Dylan.

Director, James Mangold recalled Chalamet’s progression, stating, “You’re talking about over six years,” he told Variety. Mangold added, “About three days into shooting the movie, he popped and what he let loose with blew my mind” and “It’s not like this was a fast thing. This is six years of work for him to get to the place where he can own this music.” Mangold holistically acknowledged Chalamet’s progression, as he divulged, “The first time I heard him sing, he was good, but he wasn’t what he is in the movie yet.”
Chalamet might have impressed his director and co-stars, but he seemingly didn’t impress himself too much. So don’t expect Timothée Chalamet to pull a reverse Kris Kristofferson and take over the music world by storm.
It’s a No For Timothée Chalamet
When a Variety reporter asked Chalamet about his plans for a potential album, Chalamet chuckled and responded, “Never.” Well, there you have it everybody, Timothée Chalamet will never make an album. Chalamet might not believe in his musical talents or deem himself worthy enough to make an album, although, his co-stars would beg to differ. Particularly, the star of Fight Club, Edward Norton.
Chalamet credits Norton for urging him to do the role right by learning how to play and sing live. Recalling Norton’s encouragement, Chalamet stated, “He was always the devil in my ear telling me to do these songs live” and “We had these pre-records, but Edward was always sort of the counterweight to the 99 other voices that were saying not to.”
Maybe Edward Norton was on to something Timothée Chalamet has yet to recognize, as the 28-year-old acting phenom has been receiving superb reviews for his performance. To see Chalamet step into Dylan’s skin, watch A Complete Uknown on December 25 in theaters.
