Julian Lennon, the late John Lennon’s older son, has revealed some disconcerting health news. In a lengthy post on his social media pages, the 61-year-old singer, songwriter, and photographer reported that he recently underwent an emergency operation to remove skin cancer from two areas on his body.

Lennon explained that the operation took place in Los Angeles just after his recent visit to New York City to promote his new fine-art photography book, Life’s Fragile Moments.
Julian pointed out that before his trip to New York, he visited Dr. Tess Mauricio, an L.A.-area dermatologist, for a checkup. As he explained in the online post, “Dr. Tess was the one who caught & operated on My Mole/Skin Cancer, a few years ago, and literally saved My Life.”
Lennon then noted that when he was in New York, following an appearance on Good Morning America, he “received a message from Dr. Tess, with some urgency to return to Los Angeles, as I had 2 locations on My Skin, Shoulder & Forearm, one of which was Melanoma, that should be operated on ASAP!”
Julian continued, “So instead of going home to put my Christmas tree up and happily finish the year off, relaxing at home, I flew directly back to Los Angeles, after all my work in New York was done, and went directly from LAX airport, to surgery, with a surgeon recommended by Dr. Tess.”
About the Operation
According to Lennon, the surgeon recommended by Dr. Tess, Dr. Tim Neavin “spent several hours cleaning up and operating on me, with large margins, in the hope that we have, at the end of the day … clear margins, which would mean being free from cancer…”
He added, “The operation was a success, but we have yet to have the results of the biopsy, which we may not receive before Christmas…”
Along with the post, Julian attached some relatively gruesome black-and-white images of the cancerous areas on his body. The pics include before-and-after photos of his forearm and a pic of his stitched-up shoulder.
Julian Thanked His Doctors, Expressed Hope for a Full Recovery
Lennon also shared feelings of gratitude toward his doctors, while express hope that the surgery was completely successful.
“I’m very thankful to Dr. Tess and Dr. Tim, for being able to coordinate this surgery at such short notice, but for once again, hopefully, Saving My Life…,” Julian wrote. “One can never be too confident in circumstances like this, but we all believe that Dr. Tim has saved the day… So finger’s crossed for now.”
He added, “Obviously good news, would be the best Christmas present ever… Which I’m hopeful for…”
As the message neared its end, Lennon ended offered “a timely reminder” encouraging others to “get yourself checked out by your doctor” if you notice any irregularities on your skin.
“It only takes a short while to do so, and you may just be saving your own life, at the end of the day,” he wrote. “[S]o please, for the sake of yourself, your family and friends just go to your Dr and do what must be done… I love life and I want to live for a very long time and this is one way, and a choice, that could determine your future…”
Julian concluded the note by saying, “I wish you all happy holidaze and a healthy long life… Love to all.”
