“Pass the Dutchie” by Musical Youth from The Youth of Today (1982)

This song, which hit No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, is all about the stuff that can bring on the munchies. In fact, it’s in the title. Sometimes when you’re in the mood to get a little change of mood, it can be fun to be around friends. Then you begin to pass around that which can bring on the munchies. And if you’re doing that then this song is a perfect one-hit wonder choice. On it, the band sings,

This generation
Rules the nation
With version
Music happens to be the food of love
Sounds to really make you rub and scrub

I say

Pass the Dutchie ‘pon the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie ‘pon the left hand side
It a go bun (give me the music, make me jump and prance)
It a go dung, ya know? (Give me the music, make me rockin’ at the dance)

“Smokin’ in the Boys Room” by Brownsville Station from Yeah! (1973)

Before Mötley Crüe made this song a hit, it was already a charting tune thanks to its originators Brownsville Station. Released on that group’s 1973 LP Yeah! the song, which hit No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, is about smoking. Now, smoking of any kind is not allowed at school. But sometimes those rebels flout the rules and do what’s not permitted anyway. So, why not put this buzzy rock number on when you’ve got a case of the munchies, too? On it the band sings,

Sitting in the classroom, thinking it’s a drag
Listening to the teacher rap, just ain’t my bag
The noon bells ring, you know that’s my cue
I’m gonna meet the boys on floor number two

Smokin’ in the boy’s room
Smokin’ in the boy’s room
Now, teacher, don’t you fill me up with your rules
But everybody knows that smokin’ ain’t allowed in school

“Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” by Digable Planets from Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) (1992)

This song, which hit No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also earned a Grammy for Digable Planets, is chill and thought-provoking and just the type of song you can slip into almost like a portal. When you’ve got the munchies, that’s often exactly the type of music you want to be around. Immersive and hypnotizing. Perfect for crunching down on your peanut butter trail mix! And on the tune, rapper Ishmael Butler offers,

Was fresh and fat since they started sayin’ outtie
‘Cause funks made fat from right beneath my hoodie
The poobah of the styles like Miles and sh*t
Like ’60s funky worms with waves and perms
Just sendin’ junky rhythms right down yo’ block
We be to rap what key be to lock

But I’m cool like dat, I’m cool like dat
I’m cool like dat, I’m cool like dat
I’m cool like dat, I’m cool like dat
I’m cool like dat, I’m cool (I’m cool, I’m cool)
