Why Taylor Swift Fans Are Convinced That ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’ Is on Its Way (And Why I Think It Isn’t, Yet)

Taylor Swift swears she’s only cryptic and Machiavellian ’cause she cares. In the days leading up to the 2024 GRAMMYs, the “Mastermind” singer’s profile pictures turned black and white across social media. Immediately realizing that something was up, Swifties eagerly speculated that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) was almost here. However, Swift had a curveball up her sleeve. Instead, she announced her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.

Now, the 2025 GRAMMYs are just two days away. The Recording Academy announced Swift as a presenter late Thursday (Jan. 30.) The revelation set off a phenomenon known among Swifties as “clowning.” Many fans are convinced this is finally the moment for Reputation (Taylor’s Version.)

Taylor Swift Is Re-Recording Her First Six Albums

Following a dispute with Scooter Braun over ownership rights to her first six albums, Taylor Swift announced plans to re-record those albums in 2021. To date, she has two re-releases remaining: her 2006 self-titled debut, and 2017’s Reputation. Swift has already promised “fire” bonus tracks from the latter, and Swifties are impatient to find out for themselves.

The Recording Academy announced Swift as a presenter in a Thursday (Jan. 30) social media post that began, “Are you ready for it?” This definitely got Swifties’ antennae twitching, as “…Ready For It?” is the opening track on Reputation.

““Are you ready for it?” OMG REP TV ANNOUNCEMENT INCOMING,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter.

Why She May Not Announce ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version) at the GRAMMYs

The 67th annual GRAMMY Awards almost didn’t happen at all. Wildfires burned all around Los Angeles earlier this month, destroying hundreds of thousands of homes and leaving 29 people confirmed dead.

Ultimately, GRAMMY producers decided the show would go on, but with a heavy focus on wildfire relief efforts. Therefore, many Taylor Swift fans believe that the 14-time GRAMMY winner won’t want to distract viewers from the night’s broader message.

“With the Grammys being cut back (no pre/after parties) due to the fires, it would be classless to do an announcement then, so no she won’t,” one Reddit user wrote.
