On Friday night, a Journey concert in Houston was abruptly canceled after an electrical fire broke out on stage. The whole thing was disappointing and scary. It was made even more disappointing that the fire broke out in the middle of the band’s performance of their biggest hit song, “Don’t Stop Believin’”.

The concert took place on March 14 at NRG Stadium during the Houston Livestock Show in Houston, Texas. The footage shows the band performing as planned before the entire stage goes dark. You can hear fans in the audience continue to sing the classic earworm tune. Eventually, everyone stopped when it became clear something was wrong. The crew then began to swarm the stage with fire extinguishers in tow.
After the commotion settled, fans were told that the concert was over. Specifically, an announcement declared that “due to an unforeseen electrical incident under the stage area, we regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert.”
All is Well Following the Electrical Fire That Broke Out During Journey’s Concert in Houston
“We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment,” RodeoHouston said in a statement. “Our team is working diligently to assess the situation, and we will provide updates regarding rescheduling options and refunds as soon as possible.”
Journey drummer Deen Castronovo acknowledged the fire and cancellation on Instagram, as well. He shared a photo of a few crew members inspecting the stage underneath his drum kit. Castronovo left a message for fans who might be wondering what happened.
“Fire broke out underneath the stage—right under my drum riser!” Castronovo said in the caption of the post.”I was literally on fire for 4 ½ songs, all the power cables melted, and the show was a BUST!”
It isn’t clear what caused the electrical fire, but it’s pretty clear that no one was injured. Props to NRG Stadium and Journey’s crew for tackling the fire as quickly as possible. As for fans who were disappointed to be sent home, it looks like rescheduling options or possibly even refunds are in the works at the moment.
Those expecting to see Warren Zeiders in concert tonight will still be able to, according to a recent update from RodeoHouston.
Will Journey Continue Touring as Planned?
Since there were no reported injuries after the fire at the Houston show, it looks like Journey will carry on with their tour as usual. The band is slated to perform tomorrow, March 16, at Yaamava’ Theater in Highland. California.
