The book also features a detailed history of Santana penned by veteran music and pop culture writer Jeff Tamarkin.
In addition, the book includes new interviews with various musicians and others who worked closely with Carlos over the years, as well as a conversation with the guitarist himself. Among those interviewed were founding Santana members Gregg Rolie, Michael Shrieve, and Michael Carabello; producer Clive Davis; and such other collaborators as Rob Thomas, Narada Michael Walden, Steve Miller, John McLaughlin, and Carlos’ wife—and current Santana drummer—Cindy Blackman Santana.
Love, Devotion, Surrender also features an introduction written by Carlos’ longtime friend and collaborator, folk-blues artist Taj Mahal. Among the book’s other features are a foldout section boasting images of Carlos’ favorite guitars, an illustrated discography, and a full list of every Santana performance from 1968 to 2025.
The memorabilia items appearing in the book include personal sketches, tour itineraries and schedules, concert tickets, awards, and more.
Carlos Santana: Love, Devotion, Surrender is an oversized book that comes packaged in a slipcase. The 406-page tome can be pre-ordered now. It’s official list price in $175.
A deluxe collector’s edition of Love, Devotion, Surrender signed by Carlos Santana, is due out in the summer of 2025.
About Santana’s Upcoming Album, Sentient
As previously reported, Santana will release a new album titled Sentient on March 28. The 11-track retrospective collection includes remastered versions of a variety previously released songs featuring Carlos collaborating with a number of other famous artists.
Among the guest stars appearing on the various tracks are Smokey Robinson, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and the late Michael Jackson and Miles Davis. Sentient, which can be pre-ordered now, also includes three previously unreleased recordings.
As explained in an official description of Sentient, Carlos compiled the album and sequenced the tracks “in a way that allows a new and dramatic story to emerge.”
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer noted in a statement, “I’m always driven by passion, emotion and inner instinct. When I first heard these tracks floating around in the house, I said, ‘Why don’t we put these all in one place?’”
Santana recently released a live instrumental rendition of the 1995 Michael Jackson song “Stranger in Moscow” as an advance track from Sentient. A live video of Santana’s performing “Stranger in Moscow” has been posted on YouTube. Carlos performed the song with producer/drummer Narada Michael Walden’s band in 2007 at a club in San Rafael, California.

Santana’s 2025 Tour Plans
In early January, Santana’s manager announced that the guitarist had broken the pinkie on his left hand in an accidental fall at his home in Hawaii. The injury forced Carlos to postpone eight Las Vegas residency shows running from January 22 through February 2. Rescheduled dates are expected to be announced soon.
Santana will launch a 2025 U.S. leg of its Oneness Tour on April 16 in Highland, California. The trek will wind down with a May 1 performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
That will be followed by another eight-date Las Vegas engagement, running from May 14 through May 25.
Carlos then will mount a lengthy European leg of the Oneness Tour. The outing will kick off June 9 in Lodz, Poland, and is scheduled through an August 11 show in Copenhagen, Denmark.
