John Foster Closes Out the Night With Brooks & Dunn Cover

Proudly putting his Christian faith on display all season, John Foster followed that pattern with a cover of “Believe” by Brooks & Dunn. For him, Foster tells Parade, faith and his mother are closely intertwined.

“She’s my faith,” he said. “My prime faith is Christianity, and my mom has built that over so many years. I am so eternally grateful, and that song is up there.”

The performance impressed judge Lionel Richie, who told Foster, “I now believe you as an artist.” Added Luke Bryan, “You keep surprising me every week.”

Thunderstorm Artis Dedicates Original Song To Wife Faith

Lionel Richie put it best: Thunderstorm Artis is “about to turn your thunderstorm into a tornado. The sky is the limit for you.”

The 29-year-old Hawaii native dedicated his Mother’s Day performance, an original track called “Out of the Blue” not to his own mother, but to his wife Faith, the mother of their two sons.

Mattie Pruitt Brings Us Another Tender Lauren Alaina Song

American Idol season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina is currently pregnant with her first child, so it makes sense she has a presence during the Mother’s Day episode. Mattie Pruitt dedicated her performance of Alaina’s “Those Kind of Women” to her mother and stepmother, who raised her.

“You’re getting more comfortable in this,” Judge Luke Bryan told the 16-year-old. “You’re getting the sass.”

Jamal Roberts Sings For Late Stepmom

While Mother’s Day is meant as a celebratory time, it can be tough for those who’ve lost their moms or have a difficult relationship with them. Jamal Roberts knows this all too well, dedicating his performance of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” to his stepmother, who died during the pandemic.

“I want to take the time to acknowledge her because she’s the reason I’m here,” Roberts told Parade. “She’s the reason I kept pushing; she’s the reason I didn’t give up… So much joy, so much passion, so much love. She didn’t have kids of her own, but she treated me like I was hers.”

Breanna Nix Tears Up During Beautiful Tribute to Her Mother

Stay-at-home mom Breanna Nix dedicated her heartfelt performance of season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina’s “Like My Mother Does” to her own mother. “Once you hit the tear, you’ve got everyone in the room,” Lionel Richie said.

Nix recently opened up to Parade about the difficulties of competing on American Idol while caring for her child. “Being on American Idol, I am over here one second trying to learn a song and rehearse. And the next second, I am on the phone trying to tell my husband, ‘Make sure Emerson has this,’ or trying to deal with an ear infection a couple of weeks ago,” she said. “So it’s definitely a lot of balance.”

Wow Breanna that was beautiful. I’m cryingggg lol #AmericanIdol
