Miley Cyrus Heckled at ‘Something Beautiful’ Film Premiere by Fans Expecting a Concert: “Are You Actually Going To Sing?”

Miley Cyrus’ career has swung a wide arc, from Hannah Montana fame to Grammy-winning pop icon. Her latest endeavor sees the “Flowers” singer charting new artistic territory on Something Beautiful, a visual album that explores themes of healing and trauma. Taking a leaf from Beyoncé’s Lemonade playbook, Cyrus recently debuted a 55-minute film showcasing 13 new songs at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. However, the Disney Channel alum, 32, had to contend with a few disgruntled fans who were expecting to see her perform.

As Cyrus took the stage Friday (June 6) at New York City’s Beacon Theater for a special sit-down talk about the film, some members of the audience began expressing their displeasure.

“We thought this was a concert!” one fan can be heard shouting in video footage of the event shared to social media. “We paid $800!”

Miley Cyrus Obliges With Impromptu “The Climb” Performance

Later, the same fan seemingly yells, “Are you actually going to sing?” imploring Miley Cyrus to sing “The Climb.” She obliges, giving the audience a few bars of her hit from the 2009 Hannah Montana film.

The event’s official page did not advertise Cyrus’ post-premiere appearance as a concert, instead labeling it “an exclusive conversation.” Still, some fans took to social media to insist they felt bamboozled.

“Myself and every single person around me in the audience at the beacon in NY thought this was going to be an intimate concert experience. We spent thousands of dollars on tickets, accommodation, and travel,” one Instagram user wrote. “It was never once made clear to us when purchasing that it wasn’t a concert. So disappointing.”

Fans Come to Miley’s Defense

Despite the scattered heckling, Miley Cyrus later took to social media to share her gratitude. “Tonight was emotional, deep, fun & fabulous. All my favorite things, but YOU the crowd were my absolute favorite of all,” wrote the “Wrecking Ball” singer. “I love you.”

Coming to Cyrus’ defense, one fan wrote, “I’m really sorry some illiterate fans were rude to you, Miley. You poured your heart and soul into this album, but please know that real fans are grateful, and we truly appreciate and respect your art.”
