Dominic West, who has starred in such popular TV shows as The Wire, The Crown, and The Affair, will portray the group’s one-time manager Doc McGhee. The actors who will play four main members of the Scorpions’ classic lineup also have been announced. The movie will feature Alexander Dreymon as rhythm guitarist Rudolf Schenker, Ludwig Trepte as singer Klaus Meine, Ed Speleers as lead guitarist Matthias Jabs, and Luke Brandon Field as drummer Herman Rarebell.

One of the film’s main focuses is the Scorpions’ classic 1990 anthem “Wind of Change,” which celebrated the end of the Cold War and the falling of the Berlin Wall. German actor David Kross, known for his role in The Reader, also will be featured in Wind of Change. He is portraying a friend of the Scorpions named Andrej, who was imprisoned on the other side of the wall.

Statement About the Film from Co-Producer Ali Afshar

Wind of Change is expected to get its U.S. theatrical premiere later in 2025. The biopic is being co-produced by ESX Entertainment’s Ali Afshar, and FOX Entertainment Studios’ Christina Moore and Daniel Aspromonte. The project is being produced in association with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

“It’s been an unbelievable journey developing this film and bringing it to life feels surreal” said Afshar, ESX Entertainment’s founder and president, in a statement. “Not only did the Scorpions’ music help me get through tremendous difficulties as an Iranian immigrant in America in the early ’80s, but their message of love, peace and rock ‘n’ roll seems more relevant today than ever.”

He added, “This cast is an amazing ensemble of truly great talent. I can’t thank FOX Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment enough for their support and especially the band—Rudolf, Klaus and Matthias—for believing in us and trusting us to tell their life story.”

News of the Wind of Change biopic was first announced in June 2024.
