Marketed as the “final, fearlessly raw memoir from [the] rock’n’roll hellraiser,” Last Rites will cover Osbourne’s “descent into hell” amid his health challenges.
The book picks up amid Osbourne’s farewell tour at the age of 69, when he suffered near-total paralysis from the neck down.
The memoir will see Osbourne reflect “on his extraordinary life and career – including his turbulent marriage to wife Sharon, his encounters with fellow hellraisers including Slash, Bon Scott, John Bonham and Keith Moon.”
Osbourne will additionally delve into “the harrowing final moments he spent with Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister” in the book.
In Last Rites, Osbourne will also reflect on his recent Back to the Beginning concert. At the Birmingham show, Osbourne took the stage for the final time.
The concert, which featured performances from the likes of Metallica and Slayer, also saw Osbourne reunite with his Black Sabbath bandmates for the first time in two decades.
The show was streamed around the world and raised nearly $190 million for charity.
What to Know About Ozzy Osbourne’s Last Rites
Last Rites, the description promises, “demonstrates once again why Ozzy has transcended his status as ‘The Godfather of Metal’ and ‘The Prince of Darkness’ to become a modern-day folk hero and national treasure.”
In a quote featured in the book’s description, Osbourne said, “People say to me, if you could do it all again, knowing what you know now, would you change anything? I’m like, f**k no.”
“If I’d been clean and sober, I wouldn’t be Ozzy. If I’d done normal, sensible things, I wouldn’t be Ozzy,” he said. “Look, if it ends tomorrow, I can’t complain. I’ve been all around the world. Seen a lot of things. I’ve done good… and I’ve done bad. But right now, I’m not ready to go anywhere.”
Last Rites is due out Oct. 7. It’s available for pre-order now.
